Tried & Tested – Go Ape

October 2007

Each quarter the Inconnection team, will be out and about to ‘try and test’ a venue or supplier on your behalf. We hope this research will provide you with some food for thought for your future events.

In July, the Inconnection team got in the swing of things in Delamere Forest - one of the 12 Go Ape locations in the UK. Go Ape is an award-winning high wire forest adventure course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and zip slides, located up to 40 feet high in the treetops.

On arrival the team was met by their host, Deputy Manager, Ian McNeil and whisked off for a fabulous strength-building ‘forest feast’ picnic lunch in an exclusive shelter. (Corporate groups can also opt for bacon rolls on arrival and/or tuck into a well-deserved barbeque after going ape!)

After lunch they were each kitted out with a climbing harness, and given a thorough half hour safety briefing, before being let loose on the five assault courses set high above the forest floor.

Some of the team were not quite as keen on heights as others, but everyone soon got the hang of climbing up rope ladders, attaching themselves to the cables and then feeling the adrenaline pumping through their veins as they swung through the trees. Delamere boasts the second longest zip slide of the Go Ape courses stretching a mighty 220 meters – this one definitely deserved some monkey noises to accompany the moves!

After three hours in the forest, the intrepid team was welcomed back to their forest shelter for some refreshments. To round off the day they were also awarded personal certificates.

All in all this was a fantastic experience – a great way to build team camaraderie and strengthen team bonds. The fearful amongst the team were given much encouragement and spurred on by the (apparently) braver souls amongst the group.

Adrenaline is no bad thing it seems – in a stressful situation, adrenaline kicks in and makes us more alert, increases our ability to stay focused, and produces a feeling of euphoria. That’s the theory, anyway. Admittedly, there was a tangible sense of achievement (and relief) as everyone’s feet were firmly back on the ground after going Ape!

The Inconnection team would like to thank Go Ape for their hospitality, we were very well looked after (and many have plans to return with friends and family).

The verdict?

Highly recommended for teams with a sense of adventure, looking for something unique. Many of the Go Ape locations also include conference facilities and mountain bike treks through the forest, so you can make a real day of it. The Go Ape team is very flexible and willing to adapt to individual group requirements.

We’d be happy to discuss your requirements and tailor an event to meet your objectives. Look out for another Tried & Tested event coming soon from Inconnection.

Wine tasting, anyone?
